Serrano
History of the Serrano
Originated in Mexico where they have over 30,000 acres of serranos being produced, much higher than in the United States. Dave DeWitt noted that in the largest cultivation areas, over 180,000 tons of serrano pods are produced each year.
The word itself means “from the mountains.”
Used primarily for salsas, the serrano is also frequently used for pickling with other vegetables.
The serrano pepper is the primary pepper used in our “Follow Your Fart” Serrano Garlic hot sauce, aka #2.
