Habanero

Fun fact, the whole group of Capsicum chinense are habaneros. The term “habanero” is commonly used to describe Habanero Orange, but we’ll outline all of the habaneros and peppers in C. chinense below.

This is extremely important. There is no “ñ” in habanero. We made this mistake for a long time. No one ever corrected us, so we kept chugging along saying it incorrectly. The truth of the matter is that it is a hyperforeignism and is the fault of the United States (primarily). Essentially a hyperforeignism is borrowing words from other languages and then over-correcting when applying it to similar words. Just because jalapeño has an “ñ” does not mean all peppers that end with n-o get that sound. Anyway, moving on…

The growing period is typically 80-120 days after transplant and habaneros do best in humid climates with warm to hot nights.
