Dry Hot Sauce – Kickstarter
We take a look at kickstarter from time to time to see if any up and comers are posting their products there (Bravado Spice Co. started on Kickstarter) and were not disappointed this week. The first kickstarter came from Nick Burt with his Fire Powder Dry Hot Sauce. It’s a cool concept and something I didn’t realize was a thing I wanted until I saw it. It’s a fairly simple concept, same ingredients as hot sauce, but all ingredients are dry, including the vinegar. This makes it insanely easy to put on popcorn, fries or anything else without adding any messiness. The project was fully backed and surpassed it’s initial $100 goal by 1100%. Congrats to Nick and we look forward to using the powder.
Chili Pepper CSA – Kickstarter
This was a pleasant surprise to see on Kickstarter. While looking for bulk peppers, we ran across Homesweet Homegrown, a pepper operation out of Kutztown, PA. Low and behold they were on Kickstarter this past week getting funding for their CSA (community supported agriculture). Like Nick Burt, Homesweet Homegrown surpassed their goal 6x and we’ll now be getting a small box of Ghost, Habs, Bonnet or Ajis soemtime in September. Exciting stuff and even more exciting they shattered their goal.
Jack In The Box Launching Spicy Chicken Strips
For two short months you’ll be able to get a spicy chicken strip basket at Jack In The Box. Touting a good amount of spice, the strips come in a three or five piece and are available now. Wanting extra flavor? There are “seven classic dipping sauces to choose from, including barbecue, Frank’s RedHot buffalo, honey mustard, sweet and sour, teriyaki, and zesty marinara” and buttermilk ranch. As with most spicy chicken fast food offerings, the spices are most likely cayenne and paprika.
Recipe of the week – Quick Hot Chicken
No time to turn on an oven or bread some chicken? No problem! This isn’t quite Nashville Hot Chicken, closer to [lesser known Tennessee city here] Hot Chicken. If you’re looking for a quick chicken dish that is also keto friendly, this spicy chicken is for you. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
How to Organize Your Spices
We could all use some more organization when it comes to our spices. Where’s the spicy version of Marie Kondo when you need her. Good Food attempts to walk you through some different organizational methods but says “the ultimate goal is to find an organisational method that works for you.” Best thing to do is lay them all out at the beginning and figure out the frequency at which you use the spices to help assess where they are valued. All about that inventory!
CaJohns Small Batch Habanero Pepper Sauce Review
This week we reviewed a small batch habanero hot sauce from CaJohns. Fiery and a bit too sweet, this is a great sauce that is not lasting long. Watch the full review here.
