Sushi Ten – Spiciest Dish in Columbus Series
Tensuke Plaza is a haven for some of the best Japanese food in Columbus from sushi to curry and even baked goods.
We’ve been to this plaza more times than I can count (which isn’t too high) and figured it was time to try one of the Dynamite rolls at Sushi Ten. In the plaza you’ve got access to Tensuke Express (all the noodles/curry you could ask for), Tensuke Market (for all your shopping needs), Akai Hana, and Belle’s Bread Japanese Bakery and Café. When the in-laws of the farm come to visit, we get strawberry shortcake from Belle’s, but outside of that we frequent all the establishments at least once a month.
Sitting in between all of it is the primary sushi shop, Sushi Ten. With Poke Bowls, party trays, nigiri and as many combo rolls as you can come up with, this is one of our favorite sushi spots in the city.
Look at that. So colorful and bright. The Sushi Deluxe is a definite favorite with Tuna, Salmon, White Fish, Squid, Shrimp, Octopus, Sea Eel Nigiri and salmon or tuna roll. This is the mid-range combo box and one that we consistently get. Just out of frame is two full spicy tuna rolls which we ended up dipping into the Dynamite Sauce.
Now the spicy dish you’re here for, the Dynamite Roll. Sounds intimidating, like you’ll have an explosion in your mouth, but it’s not quite that bad. I got a side of the Dynamite sauce to get the full effect and am glad I did. This stuff is great for spicying up your spicy tuna or dipping anything else in there.
The lady of the farm got cocky and dipped some spicy tuna into the Dynamite sauce, instantly regretting it. A loud “whyyy” echoed throughout the home and I just laughed and laughed. It’s not as crazy as some of the wing sauces we’ve had, but a sauce like this for sushi adds and extra layer to an otherwise unassuming dish. This particular Dynamite roll hit all the right spots for us, and the spice mixture (you can see some sprinkled on top) was a nice little kick. It doesn’t just kick you and say goodbye, the Dynamite sauce lingers for a little bit. It wasn’t big, but there was a sniffle that escaped my nose while eating this roll.
I asked about what made it “dynamite” but was pretty much told it’s like an extra spicy mayo. Don’t care, still love it. The roll itself is pretty standard, but the Dynamite Sauce plays its role well and will have me coming back for more side sauces in the future.
It’s a fun amount of spicy, so we’re placing it at #26, just below Helen’s Asian Kitchen and above the Harvest Pizzeria Spicy Yuma. Definitely worth a visit if you’re ever in that neck of the woods and a solid location for Japanese food in general.
You can find Sushi Ten and Tensuke Plaza at 1159 Old Henderson Rd. Columbus, OH 43220.
