Quick Nashville-Inspired Hot Chicken Recipe
Cook Time: 12 minutes
Spiciness Level: 3/7
No time to turn on an oven or bread some chicken? No problem! This isn’t quite Nashville Hot Chicken, closer to [lesser known Tennessee city here] Hot Chicken.
Ingredients
- 4 Chicken Thighs (boneless/skinless)
- 4 Tbsp Butter
- 2 tsp Cayenne Powder
- 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
- 1 tsp Brown Sugar Substitute
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- Salt
- Black Pepper
Directions
- First, decide if you really want to do this boneless and skinless. We love skin on because it gets so deliciously crispy, but we're going for quick here. Don't even have time for ovens. If you still want quick, proceed.
- Heat a pan with oil and season your chicken thighs on top with pinches of salt and black pepper.
- Place the chicken in the pan and cook on each side for roughly 4 minutes. Best thing to do is check for internal temperature of 165 degrees.
- While the chicken is cooking, melt the butter in a microwaveable bowl.
- Once melted, whisk in the other ingredients. You can adjust spice and sweetness to your liking at this stage.
- After the chicken is good to go, brush on the mixture on one side, cook for a minute, then repeat on the other side.
- Serve with side of your choosing!
We love this recipe because it’s quick, low carb, and not overly spicy. Before you get all up in our grill, yes, we know that waffle fries are not low carb. The rest of the recipe is though.
We also know that this is not Nashville-style hot chicken, because there’s no white bread or pickles involved.
Hot chicken is an experiment so adjust the spices as you see fit. Try it without brown sugar. Try it with just cayenne. It’s one of those things where you can make any adjustments and still have a tasty dish.
You can sub out the butter for oil (please don’t microwave it), but the butter adds some additional fat along with the chicken thighs, making it a great keto hot chicken recipe.
