Pineapple & Habanero Hot Sauce Review – Bravado Spice Co
This week we tried the Pineapple & Habanero hot sauce from Bravado Spice Co, a hot sauce team based in Texas that got their start on Kickstarter. They were recently awarded a Screaming MiMi at the NYC Hot Sauce Expo for their Creamy Herb & Jalapeño hot sauce.
The color is a dull yellow, but just by looking at it you know it’s full of pineapple. No neon yellow or fake color here, it’s about as close to the guts of a pineapple as you can get. Seeds can be seen throughout along with a wee bit of pulpiness.
Taking a sniff, the pineapple again stands out as the major player, but you start to get a hint of the vinegar. Bravado primarily uses white wine vinegar in their sauces, adding a bit of dryness to offset the sweetness of the pineapple.
This is an extremely runny sauce, which is why I imagine the price point is usually on the lower end of hot sauces. It’s no wonder Bravado Spice Co has a margarita mix they make, because their sauces are all almost drinks themselves. Once we had it on a spoon you start to see some of the bits of pepper and pineapple, but not so much that it ruins the overall look of the sauce. In fact, it adds to it overall.
It’s not until you taste the sauce that you truly understand that there are habaneros in this hot sauce. The heat hits you pretty quick, but it’s not overpowering and allows the pineapple to shine. Heat-wise this is a great starter sauce for people looking to get into spicier things. Not enough to kill you, but enough to get your attention.
The label is fairly plain, but we did like the font choices and some of the decorations around the ingredients.
There are many fruity habanero sauces on the market, mainly because of the popularity of the habanero and its citrusy flavor, so this is not the most original sauce ever. Bravado tends to put an interesting spin on things as you’ll see in future reviews, but the pineapple habanero combo is middle of the road in originality.
This is a hot sauce that we definitely recommend and the only one where we have agreed that it tops our flavor chart. Fruity with a bit of heat, this is one hot sauce that will not stay full for long.
