CaJohns Z: Nothing Beyond Hot Sauce Review
From Fiery Foods maker himself, Z Nothing Beyond is an extract sauce made by CaJohns. Measured at 4 million Scoville units, this is allegedly the hottest we’ve tried so far.
From the CaJohns Z Nothing Beyond description:
Z…Nothing Beyond Hot Sauce is a tasty concoction that is hot, but It won’t kill you, you might wish it did! Made with 4 million Scoville unit pepper extract, this sauce should only be used with extreme caution! An award winning extract sauce that definitely brings fire to the delightful flavor.
Appearance: This is a sauce the looks a little thicker than other sauces, but not quite as thick as most extract sauces. The color is mean and you can see the extract oil floating around in there, glaring at you, daring you to try the sauce.
Aroma: There’s a strong heat smell to Z Nothing Beyond and a hint of tomatoes. The fruitiness of the papaya and any of the others seems to be lost in the extract heat, but it’s not a terrible smell.
Texture: Z Nothing Beyond is fairly viscous and lazily meanders across the spoon as you move it. The movement is smooth enough it almost makes you forget you’re about to put 4 million Scoville units into your face hole.
Heat: Measured at 4 million Scoville units, we were a little underwhelmed with the heat at first, but it definitely starts to build. As the extract oil coats your tongue, it reminds you that it’s going to be staying there for a while. Heat is not quite as hot as advertised, but pretty spot on for an extract sauce.
Flavor: We didn’t really get much here. Similar to the aroma, the flavor was absent, making way for just the heat to light us up. Some reviewers mention the fruitiness, but neither of us picked up on that, leading to our lowest flavor score so far.
Originality: It is what it says it is, an extract sauce. Nothing too original about that, but the fruit blend that it touts saves this from bringing in a low score.
Label: Font choices and colors could be better, but when you’re buying an extract sauce, you tend to not care much about what it looks like.
Overall this is a middle of the road sauce. As extracts go we’ve had some that are more flavorful and we’ve had some that are worse. This isn’t one we’ll be picking up again in the near future, but it’s possible it could be up your alley. It’s definitely interesting to see retroactively that it’s an award winning sauce, because we’re just not seeing it. Welp, to each their own!
