Ghost Pepper Party Mix

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Spiciness Level: 4/7

Ingredients

  • 3/8 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp Onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3 Tbsp Butter
  • 1/2-1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Cup Bagel and garlic rye chips
  • 1/2 Cup Bite sized pretzels
  • 4.5 Cups Chex cereal (mix a few together)
  • 1/8-1 tsp Dehydrated ghost pepper powder

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
  2. Start off by making your seasoning mix. Combine garlic powder, onion powder, salt, smoked paprika and your preferred amount of ghost pepper powder.
  3. In a large bowl combine cereal, pretzels and bagel chips then set aside.
  4. Melt butter in microwave then add Worcestershire sauce and combine for even distribution.
  5. Pour butter and Worcestershire (already tired of trying to spell this word) over cereal mix and stir to coat followed by the seasoning mixture until everything looks properly dressed.
  6. Spread mixture on a non greased baking sheet and pop in the oven for an hour stirring every 15 minutes.
  7. Spread mixture out on paper towels to cool for about 15-25 minutes depending on if you’re eating immediately or storing in a container (heat in the container will cause soggy-ness).

Turning an old classic into something with a little pizazz is always a good time. It’s even better when it’s got a fiery spooky twist. The party mixes of days past while delicious and consumed by the handfuls are awesome, around here though, we prefer to add some depth. Enter dehydrated ghost pepper! Here’s the breakdown.

If you don’t roll with the rye chips, we don’t know what to tell you.

I’m sure some of you have a tried and true party mix recipe and the great news about that is you can use your base recipe and add this bit of flare. I needed to use a good staple recipe as a general jumping off point. My household is partial to the bagel/rye chips and the corn/rice squares so we don’t add too much extra other than the pretzels.

Seasoning mix.

After preheating your oven to 250 degrees get your creative juices flowing and make your seasoning. I opted for onion powder, garlic powder, salt, smoked paprika (regular paprika just doesn’t compare) and some of Ron’s homegrown Dehydrated ghost peppers. The recipe might seem like it has a huge variance for that last ingredient but it’s meant to be mixed at your discretion based on your heat tolerance. But I digress.

The crunchiest of layers.

Once you’ve Frankenstein’d the perfect concoction toss your snack mix components in a large bowl and put that baby in a corner (ya I said it). Melt your butter in the microwave and add your Worcestershire sauce. Really who came up with that word?! Pour your butter mixture over the snack mix to coat and then sprinkle in your seasoning. Separating those steps seems to disperse the flavoring a bit better. Spread out onto your baking sheet then commence babysitting. Cook for an hour mixing every 15 minutes to prevent burning.

Spiciness to go!

Lay your golden treasures out on paper towels to cool… or consume immediately, we aren’t judging.

This one is a real winner folks! 12/10 would recommend making right away.
