Prohibition – Spiciest Dish in Columbus Series

In June we ventured to downtown Powell to snag some food from Prohibition.

Yes, yes, another chicken dish. Prohibition’s Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich is a “Hand-breaded and fried chicken breast tossed in our Carolina ghost pepper sauce and layered with lettuce, sweet pickles, and creole sauce. Served on a brioche bun.” A lot of things going on in those sauce names, but both are distinguishable on the sandwich.

Taking a first bite, the sauce the chicken is tossed in is a slightly spicier Franks-esque sauce. A bit of buffalo flavoring and then a teeny spike of heat that quickly fades from the pickle and creole sauce. A few more bites in, still a slight pinch of pain from the heat, but The Lady of the Farm was able to take a bite without the nose sweats, a solid indicator that this is a lower spice item.

Gliding through the rest of the sandwich, the creole sauce continued to make an appearance, continuing to mask the heat of the Carolina ghost pepper sauce. Similar to a cajun-spiced mayo, the creole sauce joins with the other toppings to cool down any rising spiciness you may find in the sandwich itself.

It’s a spicy chicken sandwich that’s a bit more on the wet side with a topping combo that makes for a nice addition, but all elements combined lead to a lower-tier heat level. As such, we are placing the Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich at #78 just after Dirty Frank’s spicy weiners and just before Pho Chef’s Spicy Filet Steak Rice Noodles. The Prohibition menu is constantly changing and revolves around a cajun theme, so there may be spicier dishes on their menu throughout the year.
